Know When to Call

What Is Considered a Dental Emergency?

The category of “dental emergency” includes more conditions than you might think. The most obvious examples are dental injuries caused by oral trauma, including loose or knocked-out teeth, cracked or broken teeth, and cuts or lacerations to the gums, tongue, cheeks, and lips.

However, there are many other conditions that also count as dental emergencies. For example, if you have a serious toothache that won’t go away, this may be a sign of an infected tooth, which is an emergency. Gums that bleed for no reason could indicate a serious case of gum disease. A filling that is broken or loose or a crown that has cracked or become loose also counts as an emergency.

When in doubt, it’s best to see a dentist. If your condition is causing you discomfort, pain, or bleeding and you don’t know how to treat it on your own, you should come to All Day Smile for an emergency appointment in Fullerton.

Be Prepared

What If My Tooth Is Knocked Out?

This is a serious and very time-sensitive dental emergency. Your tooth needs to be replaced and splinted within 1-2 hours. If you don’t get help within this time, it will die and we won’t be able to replace it.

Recover your tooth and rinse it off if it is dirty. Hold it by the top (crown), not the bottom (root), to avoid damaging the delicate nerves of your tooth. Gently try to place it back into the socket to keep it moist, or put it into a container of cold milk.

Do not waste time trying to treat your pain, discomfort, and bleeding on your own. Call All Day Smile and let us know that you’re coming in with a knocked-out tooth, so that we can give you the attention you need. Above all else, be sure to come into our office as soon as you possibly can. The sooner you see us, the more likely it is that we can save your tooth.

Same-Day Emergency Appointments

When you have a dental emergency, you need to get help right away. Getting same-day care is the best way to prevent further complications, address your pain and discomfort, and get back to your day-to-day life. If you have to wait to get care, your pain and your condition will only worsen.

We offer same-day emergency appointments to all of our patients. If you need treatment, we’ll see you as soon as we possibly can. If you need emergency care, we request that you call ahead, if possible, at (714) 821-7645. This gives us time to prepare for your visit and ensures you’ll get the attention you need as soon as possible.

However, we also accept walk-in emergency appointments at our office, which is located at 2288 N State College Blvd, Fullerton, CA 92831. If you can’t call ahead, feel free to come in, and we’ll see you as soon as we can.

How to

Schedule a Same-Day Appointment

To schedule a same-day appointment, all you have to do is call our office at (714) 821-7645. We offer same-day appointments to all of our patients, and can even see some patients with serious emergencies outside of regular business hours.

Once you call All Day Smile, you’ll speak directly to one of our staff members. Tell us about your situation to see if you can get an appointment right away. Our staff may need to quickly discuss your situation with Dr. Hang Pham to determine the best course of action. Once you’ve set your same-day appointment  at our office, come in ASAP to get the care you need.

What to Do

Before Your Emergency Appointment

Wondering what you should do before you come into All Day Smile for your emergency dentistry appointment? This depends on your situation somewhat, but there are a few basic steps you should always follow to prepare for your appointment.

First, you should recover your tooth, broken tooth fragments, or lost dental work, if applicable. If you’ve lost a tooth, pick it up by the top (crown) to avoid damaging the bottom (root). Then, put it into a container of cold milk or back into the socket. This keeps it moist. You need to see Dr. Pham within 1-2 hours if you’ve lost a tooth, so come in immediately. For tooth fragments, put them in a container of cold milk.

Lost dental work can be put directly into a small plastic baggie or container. In addition, if you have any temporary dental cement on hand, which is widely available at most drugstores, you can use it to reattach a loose crown, or to cover up the tooth after you’ve lost a filling. However, if you don’t have any of this cement, don’t bother going out to buy some. Come straight to All Day Smile instead, and Dr. Hang Pham will permanently replace your dental crown or filling.

Next, you should address the pain and discomfort of your emergency as much as you can to stay comfortable before your appointment. We recommend that you use a clean cotton ball, gauze, or a paper towel to absorb any blood, if present. Apply gentle pressure to the area and blood flow should slow within 30-45 minutes in most cases.

If you are experiencing a lot of pain, you should take an over-the-counter medication like ibuprofen or naproxen. These can help with discomfort and inflammation, and can provide you with a bit of relief until you can come into All Day Smile for a permanent treatment.

You also can use an ice pack to get relief from some of your pain and discomfort. We recommend applying an ice pack to the cheek near the affected area. You can keep it in place for up to 10 minutes at a time.

Note, of course, that these are all temporary solutions. It’s important to come into All Day Smile as soon as you can for your appointment with Dr. Hang Pham to restore your tooth, prevent further complications, and get true relief from your pain and discomfort. Schedule your same-day appointment now.
