Dental Implants in Anaheim

When a tooth cannot be saved via root canal or if the tooth is deemed “non-restorable” then it has to be extracted. There are a few options you can you can choose to replace that missing tooth.  The most commonly done treatment to replace missing teeth are bridges. Just like regular single tooth crowns, bridges require two structurally stable teeth on either side of the tooth that needs to be replaced.  An artificial tooth is then “bridged” in between the missing tooth. The major disadvantage of bridges is that, once one of the supporting teeth gets a cavity, or if one of them break, then the entire bridge has to be redone. This means that even the other supporting tooth needs to be prepared for another crown. This is why at All Day Smile; we offer the option of getting an implant to replace missing teeth.

So what are Teeth Implants?

Teeth implant is a device that replaces the root part of your tooth. The device is made from titanium to ensure durability. Just like the regular roots of your natural teeth, the implant root device is embedded deep into the jaw bone of the patient. The process starts with an extensive exam so the Oral Surgeon or Periodontist can plan the surgery in detail and discuss treatment options. Surgery is required for this procedure to expose the jaw bone and place the root implant into the bone. After surgery, it takes about 2 to 6 months for the titanium root to Osseointegrate or “fuse” with the surrounding bone structure.  During this time, a temporary tooth replacement can be placed in the meantime to retain functionality.  After a few months when the implant has finally fused with the jaw bone, an implant crown is then put on top of the root device to replace the missing tooth.  Each case varies from patient to patient, and healing timetables are different due to a few determining factors.
